WALKING MY WAYS. Last Saturday, was the opening of the Carmel Bach Festival. It’s 89th season. Whose longevity is remarkable. Where I attended this year’s first Main Concert. THE SEASONS, by Franz Joseph Haydn. Plus an additional score, by Nils Henrik Asheim. Featuring a superb orchestra. Soloists. Dancers. A chorale. Magnificent conducting by Grete Pedersen. And electrically induced, and look alike snowflakes, dropping from the ceiling. So the whole program was a joy. Including a lecture and The Tower Brass, before the concert. And a reception, afterwards. In short, it was GRAND. And World Class.

My family and I have been involved with the Bach Festival for many years. And most years I have attended its concerts. And for 12 years, my mom was head of its housing committee. And my uncle was on the board of directors. And my father loved to attend. And at one time, when I was a youth, I remember going to the home of its founders, Dene Denny and Hazel Watrous. Where we heard intriguing recitals.

And last year, my house was on its house tour. And for some years, I donated my studio, to musicians. So you might say, The Bach Festival has been part of my personal history. Which also can be said of many peninsula residents. And when you read all the names in the program, you will be astounded. Many locals. Not necessarily musicians, staff or participants. But countless sponsors, housing donors, supporters and contributors, in one way or another. The number of patrons and individuals involved is simply amazing. As is the audience.

As are the Venues, Churches, Cathedrals, Theaters, Libraries and on. All over the peninsula. As the Bach Festival is not only the Carmel Bach Festival. But also that of the entire area. So, if you attend any of the concerts, and read the pages in the program, you can do so happily and proudly. And see the connectivity. And be ready for a good night’s sleep. Relaxed. Finis.
