WALKING MY WAYS
WALKING MY WAYS. Last month, I received a letter from the DMV, advising me that my driver’s license would soon expire. I therefore made an appointment. And last Friday, I went there. Slightly stressed. And did encounter some hurdles. First, I was told to get a number with my smart phone. Well, I didn’t have a smart phone. But I did get a number.
And after it was called, a DMV associate asked me to go to one of their 18 computers to fill out an application blank. So I went to first one. Then two. Then three different ones, but none seemed to work. So I went back to the lady, who told me to push the green button, WITH MY THUMB, which I hadn’t done. And from then on, I only used my fingers. And so I answered some 20 questions, including PO Box 1673. But PO Boxes weren’t accepted, so I put down 5 San Carlos, which worked. (And eventually, they did accept my P.O. Box.)
In any event, I looked around, at the spacious DMV office. Which included 30 or 40 people, waiting. Young, old, and in between. Including two friends. And St. Patrick’s decor all over. With a cloned Christmas Tree, full of green garland and green decorations. Perhaps it was a St. Patrick’s tree. At any rate, I next gave them two thumb prints. And then waited behind a white line, while my photo was taken. And then received a packet of paperwork, to keep. All part of a temporary Driver’s License.
But no other questions to answer. Nor any driving test to take. Just a few weeks to wait, and I would get my new license in the mail. So with that cheerful thought, I drove home. Happy. Relaxed. And Relieved. Finally. P.S. The DMV was a stimulus for me to check my TSA pre-check authorization. And I realized it, too, was about to expire. So fortunately, and happily, I was able to extend this, too. Finis.

Al;as, it has been two weeks since I read or responded to Hans's remarkable Walking My Ways newsletter-romance with life. And that reminded me how much a missed - indeed, how much any of his readers miss by not walking with Hans. Did he let you know that last Monday we celevrated Hans and other volunteers from Abraham's Tent - Jews, Christians & Muslims United? Or that Hans's appearance each week brings an outpouring of love from the other volunteers as well as Holly and Rabbi Greenbaum? Hans continues to live his life as a great and loving gane to be savored and appreciated, much as we all love and savor and appreciate Hans! In the words of a commonly-he;ld Jewish saying, "May he live to 120! And may his years ve filled with life!" Love, Hugo
After reading your description and after a chuckle and a shake of my head, all I could think was, well, that's our DMV.
