WALKING MY WAYS
WALKING MY WAYS. To many people, the Carmel Foundation is their second home. Not only to locals, but also to many others. It has drive by lunches. On site lunches. Coffee and muffins. Classes. Movies. Discussions. Events. Free blood pressure readings. Free mobility equipment loans. Legal services. Support groups. Games. Art. Dance. Woodworking. Bridge. Tours. Health and wellness lectures. Meetings with the Chief of police. Low income housing. Vaccines. And on. In fact, I don’t know what it doesn’t have. And I think it is a fabulous opportunity for seniors to engage. Yesterday, I picked up a collage, from last month’s show, which I had bought. And looked at their new wood working show.
And I also purchased one of their 75 year anniversary totes. A bargain! When a good friend approached me. So we had to update our personal news. And then a lady asked me about my walking sticks. So I had to show her. And she LOVED THEM. And I probably should go into the business. But I don’t think I will. In any event, it is quite amazing how one can spend a few hours, just visiting the Carmel Foundation. Which has services galore.
But for necessities, you go somewhere else. Namely the Carmel Drug Store. Which has everything else from soup to nuts. It has drugs, medications, vitamins, supplements, candy bars, travel needs, sunscreen, soaps, lotions, hair products, gifts, magazines and hundreds, probably thousands, of other items. Including remarkable service. Which you rarely receive. Anywhere.
In this case, I went there to get a bottle of Tylenol and was immediately greeted by a massive clerk. Who even recognized me. Which I found amazing. Especially, as I didn’t recognize him. Even though he was a neighbor. But, he has grown three inches, and put on 50 pounds. And was a senior at Stevenson, ready to go to College, and play football. So the Carmel Drug Store really does have everything. For sure. Including a future All American. Whom I even know. WOW! Finis.

I didn't know Carmel Drugstore sold soup. Whle I celebreate that ancent and still-fabulous store,I feel remiss if I didn't advise you and your legion of readers that Dollar Tree on Fremont in Monterey sells Campbell's soup - we buy mostly Tomato soup - for $1.25 a can, which is larger than Campbell's regular size can. I have not, howeber seen any walking sticks - in fact, I didn't know that sticks could walk. Another "something new" I learn from Hans' ever expanding book of interesting things. For all of Han's audience, I see crowds - albeit small crowds - gathering everywhere on the Peninsula to proterst this, that, and the other - against everything from Musk to Israel to the increasing length of skirts, to the price increases due to tariffs. Might I suggest we gather a (larger) crown to surround Hans' house and applaud his wonderful literary efforts and perhaps even sing to him (a la Flash Mob) to celebrate Han's own celebration of the important things in life! What a consummate treasure he continues ro be! - Hugo Gerstl
