WALKING MY WAYS
WALKING MY WAYS. Last Thursday, I helped serve a drive by dinner. Like I usually do. At Epiphany Lutheran & Episcopal Church. In Marina. With Abraham's Tent, an affiliation of JCM. Jews, Christians and Muslims, United. And was blown away at how tasty the meal was. Fresh salad. Cookies. Candies. And a generous assortment of grilled chicken stir fry, and veggies. All over rice. And from the start, there was a steady stream of cars. Non stop. Plus many walk ups. Three single women. Two bicyclists. Two men, who pushed their versatile stroller, holding Trinity, their cheerful Chihuahua. Room for Trinity and eight meals, as they brought some to their neighbors. In fact, many of the walk ups, including many cars, asked for extra meals. For their friends and neighbors.
One lady told me that last week she had a flat, on her bicycle. Waited a few days. Prayed. And suddenly, the flat was fixed. Just like that. And as she was telling her story, she also was extolling that her meal was superb. Which she had just sampled. And she was right.
And a number of individuals made financial donations. In different denominations. In one case, a teenager jumped out of her car, raced up to the donation jar, and happily thrust in some dollar bills. Another time, someone dropped in a twenty dollar bill. One never knows. Some days, no one makes any donations. Other days, otherwise. Last Thursday was an "otherwise" day. Don't ask me why. Maybe, because it was so cold and windy. And the meals were warm. Which may have induced recipients to donate. Meaningfully.
In any event, driving home, I thought what an unusual and wonderful group of individuals were involved in our meal. Guests, who were smiling and most appreciative. And workers. A happy, hardworking and relentless crew. Who gave their all. And give their all. Every Thursday. For a very worthwhile cause. Always. Finis.
